Matanos L’Evyonim

As Purim approaches, we at GotChicken are have dozens of needy families who can benefit greatly from your Matanos L’Evyonim donation.
Below are some basic Halachos which apply to Matanos L’Evyonim:

1.Each person should donate the value of one ‘meal’ to two poor people.
2.The value of this ‘meal’ is subject to a Machlokis Achronim. We have set the bar at $7; feel free to add to this amount.
3.According to R' Yitzchak Berkovits Shlita the money should be distributed on the day that the poor person celebrates Purim.
4.The distribution will therefore take place on the 15th of Adar- Monday, March 1st 2010.
5.By donating you are designating the board of GotChicken as your emissaries to fulfill your Mitzvah of Matanos L’Evyonim.
6.According to the Aruch HaShulchan all men and women above the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah should contribute Matanos L’Evyonim.
7.Matanos L’Evyonim money should not come from Maaser money.
8.Maaser money may be added onto the original Matanos L’Evyonim donation.
